Anthony Gordon’s haircut timeline, November 2021 to October 2026.
A full-back spends Saturday trying to stop Anthony Gordon. On Monday, someone walks into a barbershop asking to look like him.
I’d bring the October 2024 photo. The one from the side. The taper is sharp around the ear and there’s still enough at the back to annoy somebody. That’s a proper football haircut.
01 · November 2021 — The heavy fringe
Gordon grew up in Kirkdale, went from Liverpool’s academy to Everton at 11 and made his senior debut at 16. In the first photo he’s in an England jacket, with a fringe you could pick out from the stands. Ask for a full fringe with scissor texture. Dry it forward and pinch a little clay into the ends. Distorter Clay ·
02 · October 2022 — The blond curtains
Everton had just come through a relegation fight. Gordon was a first-team player by then, with blond curtains that split cleanly down the middle. Keep the front long enough to fall either side of the part. Dry it away from the face and work a dab of crème through the ends. Leave the blond to your colourist. Drifter Crème
03 · January 2024 — The crop and fade
By now he’d joined Newcastle and won the Under-21 Euros with England, taking player of the tournament. That spring he’d make his senior debut against Brazil and finish the season as Newcastle’s Player of the Year, with 11 league goals and ten assists. Ask for a short fade and a choppy top. Dry forward and pinch in matte clay. Distorter Clay · Newcastle United
04 · October 2024 — The tapered mullet
Show your barber the profile. Ask for a tight taper around the ear and leave length at the nape. Work clay through the dry top for separation. The back can look after itself. If you’re growing it out, get the taper tidied and tell your barber to leave the back alone. Distorter Clay
05 · December 2024 — The shaggy mullet
Two months later there’s more weight around the ear and the back has softened. Ask for soft layers and keep the nape long. Mist salt spray into towel-dried hair, scrunch and let it dry. Fine hair needs a lighter touch. Texturiser Sea Salt Spray
06 · February 2025 — The layered waves
Gordon scored in both legs against Arsenal on Newcastle’s way to winning the League Cup. Around then, the longer layers started doing the work. Keep enough length to sweep the front back. Scrunch a little crème through damp mid-lengths and ends. Drifter Crème · Newcastle United
07 · September 2025 — The slick back
Keep the sides long enough to tuck behind the ears. Rake a little gum through slightly damp hair, then comb straight back for visible tracks and shine. Vector Gum
08 · December 2025 — The long curtains
The Everton curtains are back with enough length to turn out around the ears. Ask for face-framing layers. Mist primer into damp hair, dry the front away from your face and let the ends fall. Wonder Primer
09 · January 2026 — The brushed-back look
Similar length, different finish. Keep the wave around the ears. Finger-dry the front back with lift at the roots and use a touch of gum at the temples to hold the shape. Vector Gum
10 · October 2026 — The Barcelona waves
Ten Champions League goals for Newcastle that season. Four in one half against Qarabağ. Barcelona signed him in May. By October, the waves were loose around his face. Ask for a medium-length scissor cut with soft layers. Scrunch crème into the damp ends and let the hair settle. If your hair is straight, show your barber where you want the length to sit. The layers will still give it shape. Drifter Crème · FC Barcelona · Newcastle United
How Hairbond gets into kit bags
Footballers use Hairbond. Paul Gallagher helped get it in front of Jamie Vardy and Jordan Pickford. In the Wales dressing room, one player tried it and told another. That’s how it travels. The products here are my picks for getting Gordon’s looks at home. The Hairbond dressing-room story · Football Has Always Sold Haircuts
My vote stays with the mullet. Take the side-on photo to the barber. Make sure they see it before the clippers come out.
