Not Every Man Wants His Hair to Look Like Concrete
I’ve been involved in professional hair care since 2008, and I’ve watched the industry go round in circles.
One year everybody wants shine.
The next year everything has to be matte.
Then comes extreme hold, dry texture and products apparently strong enough to survive a hurricane.
Don’t get me wrong. I love a good hair clay. We make one ourselves.
But somewhere along the way, the industry became obsessed with making men’s hair look completely dry.
More texture. More hold. Less movement.
Meanwhile, hairstyles were changing.
Longer fringes. Swept-back styles. Natural side parts. Layered cuts.
Men were growing their hair again, yet many were still reaching for products designed around short, heavily textured styles.
I kept coming back to something we’d explored years earlier.
Whatever happened to a really good hair gum?
Not the sticky, greasy stuff people remember.
Something modern.
Something lightweight.
Something that gives hair direction without taking away its character.
That’s where Vector began.
An Idea That Never Really Went Away
Some customers might remember Hairbond Sculptor Putty.
It was part of an earlier chapter in our story, when men’s styling was moving towards more flexible finishes and products that allowed hair to move.
As matte clays became increasingly popular, the market changed.
Hairbond changed with it.
But the thinking behind that earlier generation of styling products never completely left me.
I always believed there was room for something that offered definition, separation and natural shine without leaving hair feeling heavy.
The timing just needed to be right.
And sometimes the best ideas aren’t necessarily new.
They’re ideas worth revisiting when the market is ready.
Fifteen years later, we’ve created something entirely different.
Hairbond Vector isn’t Sculptor with a new label. It’s a completely new professional hair gum developed for the way men style their hair today.
Meet Hairbond Vector Professional Hair Gum
Vector is a medium-hold styling gum designed to create three-dimensional texture, separation and definition with a natural shine finish.
Our hold rating is 3 out of 5.
That’s deliberate.
Not every hairstyle needs maximum hold.
Sometimes you want enough control to give your hair shape while keeping it flexible enough to restyle throughout the day.
Vector delivers that balance.
The lightweight, non-greasy formula allows you to work the product through your hair, separate individual sections and create a more defined finish.
There’s natural shine, but without that excessively wet or oily appearance.
And because it’s water-based, it washes out easily.
In simple terms?
Your hair looks styled without feeling trapped.
Why Hair Gum Makes Sense Again
Take a look at the hairstyles becoming increasingly popular.
Longer, layered hair.
Swept-back looks.
Classic side parts.
Relaxed styles with movement and definition.
These cuts don’t always benefit from products that make hair extremely dry or rigid.
They need control, certainly.
But they also need flexibility.
That’s where Vector earns its place.
It works particularly well on medium-length and longer hairstyles, allowing the hair to separate naturally while giving individual sections greater definition.
You can also use it on shorter cuts when you want texture with a touch of shine rather than a completely matte appearance.
The important thing is that the product works with your hair.
Not against it.
Vector, Distorter or Drifter?
One thing I’ve always believed is that every Hairbond product should have its own purpose.
There’s no point filling shelves with ten different jars that all do virtually the same job.
Take Distorter.
It’s our professional hair clay, designed for dry texture and a matte finish.
Excellent when you want separation without shine.
Then there’s Drifter.
Our lightweight styling crème delivers softer control, natural movement and a relaxed finish, particularly suited to longer hair.
Vector sits between those different approaches.
More definition and structure than a light crème, but with the flexibility and natural shine that you won’t get from a traditional matte clay.
And if you want maximum hold, we’ve got stronger products such as Super, Shaper and Forger.
Vector isn’t trying to replace them.
It does something different.
The best hair product isn’t necessarily the strongest. It’s the one that suits your hairstyle.
That should always be the starting point.
How to Get the Best from Vector
You don’t need a complicated routine.
Start with a small amount and work it evenly between your palms.
Apply it through your hair, concentrating on the areas where you want definition and control.
For a smoother, naturally shinier finish, try applying Vector to slightly damp hair.
For a more relaxed style, work it through dry hair and use your fingers to create separation.
If you prefer a neater look, finish with a comb.
The flexible hold allows you to reshape your hair without starting again.
And when you’re finished for the day, the water-based formula makes washing it out straightforward.
No elaborate routine.
No five-product cocktail.
Just a styling product doing its job.
Two Years in Development. Fifteen Years of Thinking.
Vector has been part of approximately two years of development alongside our other new additions, Forger and Drifter.
Each was created for a different styling requirement.
Forger provides strong hold and a matte finish.
Drifter delivers light hold and softness.
Vector brings flexible definition and natural shine.
Three products with three different purposes.
That’s how I believe a professional styling range should work.
Hairbond has been around since 2008. We’ve spent years building products with their own identities rather than simply following whatever happens to be fashionable.
I don’t believe customers need endless variations of the same thing.
They need products they understand.
Products that work.
And products worth coming back for.
Vector had to earn its place in our range.
I’m pleased that it finally has.
Fifteen Years Later, Hair Gum Is Back
I’m not bringing hair gum back because I think everything was better fifteen years ago.
It wasn’t.
Formulations improve. Hairstyles evolve. Customers become more knowledgeable.
But sometimes an industry becomes so focused on one type of product that it overlooks the alternatives.
For years, matte finishes and extreme hold dominated men’s styling.
Now I see more men wanting something different.
Natural shine.
Flexible control.
Definition without stiffness.
Hair that actually moves.
That’s exactly why we created Vector.
It’s not another clay pretending to be revolutionary.
It’s not a product promising impossible hold.
And it’s not a relabelled version of something we sold years ago.
It’s a modern professional hair gum with a clear purpose.
Give men control without taking away the natural character of their hair.
Fifteen years ago, I believed there was room for that kind of styling product. The market went in another direction, but I never completely abandoned the idea.
Today, we’ve finally given it a new direction.
And I think it’s been worth the wait.
