The Haircuts Changed. The Shelf Stayed the Same.
Why Hairbond is preparing to launch Drifter, Forger and Vector after five years without a new styling product
The haircuts changed.
The shelf stayed the same.
Men grew out their fades.
Fringes became fuller. Curtains returned. Hair became softer, longer and less interested in standing perfectly still.
Yet much of the industry kept offering the same answer.
Another dry clay.
Stronger hold. Drier finish. Darker tin.
Apparently innovation had become finding another shade of black.
Clay still matters.
The fade is not dead.
Strong hold has not suddenly become illegal.
But men’s hair is more varied now.
The products need to catch up.
That is why Hairbond is preparing to launch Drifter, Forger and Vector.
Not three more products.
Three missing answers.
The Industry Chased Strength
For years, men’s hair products moved in one direction.
Stronger.
Drier.
More matte.
That made sense when the dominant haircut had short sides, a textured top and very little movement.
The fade became the default. The quiff sat on top. The clay went in.
Job done.
But the industry became so obsessed with creating stronger products that it stopped asking a more important question.
Had the haircut changed?
It had.
Customers began asking for curtains, loose fringes, flows, softer crops, longer swept-back styles and hair that could move without collapsing.
The shelf still handed them something designed to make hair stand to attention.
That is not professional product matching.
That is guessing with confidence.
The Future Is Better Matching
Hair is different.
Haircuts are different.
People are different.
Some customers want a dry matte finish.
Some want natural shine.
Some need powerful hold.
Others want enough control to shape their hair without feeling as though they have varnished it.
There is no single perfect styling product.
There is only the right product for the right person.
The future of men’s hair is not stronger hold.
It is better matching.
That is the barber’s real skill.
The customer may arrive with a screenshot and a haircut name invented on social media three days earlier.
The professional has to understand the hair, create the shape and recommend something the customer can actually use at home.
The product should fit the haircut.
The haircut should fit the person.
Anything else is just selling jars.
Why We Created Drifter
Hair creams promise softness and easy control.
Too many deliver flat hair instead.
They can weigh the style down, remove the texture and leave the hair looking less effortless and more unfinished.
Drifter was created for people who want shape, softness and natural movement without stiffness.
It is a professional hair crème for looser fringes, curtains, relaxed swept-back styles and hair that should look finished without looking forced.
The hair stays light.
It remains touchable.
It still moves.
The result looks like your hair.
Just on a much better day.
Improving an Idea We Already Believed In
Drifter did not appear from nowhere.
Hairbond previously launched Designer and later Texturiser Cream.
Both products were built around an idea we have believed in for years.
Not every man wants dry clay or rigid hold.
Some styles need softer control.
Some hair needs movement.
Designer and Texturiser Cream helped us understand that customer.
Drifter takes the idea further.
It improves the feel, application and finished result for the way men wear their hair now.
It is lighter, easier to work through and better suited to modern styles that need movement without losing their shape.
Drifter is not an old product returning with a new label.
It is an idea we have improved through experience.
Why We Created Forger
Matte styling products often force customers to choose.
Strong hold or comfortable hair.
The stronger they become, the drier they can feel.
They drag during application.
They leave the hair rough.
They create plenty of texture but can make the finished style feel like it has been insulated.
Forger Putty was created to bridge that gap.
It gives dependable hold, natural texture and a clean matte finish without unnecessary dryness.
It is made for shorter and medium-length styles that need structure but should still look believable.
Strong does not have to mean solid.
Matte does not have to mean dusty.
Your hair has suffered enough.
The Modern Replacement for Mattifier Cement
Forger also fills a genuine gap in the Hairbond range.
It is the modern replacement for Mattifier Cement.
Mattifier built a loyal following because it gave customers firm control and a convincing matte finish.
But the ingredients and manufacturing landscape changed. We could not simply keep producing the same product forever and pretend nothing had happened.
Forger takes over the job Mattifier once performed.
It gives customers matte control and structure, but with an updated formula designed for the haircuts and expectations of today.
It is not Mattifier with a different name.
It is the next generation of the idea.
A professional putty made for people who want strength without turning their hair into building material.
Why We Created Vector
Longer hair asks a different question.
It does not always need more dryness.
It often needs more glide.
More separation.
More control through the length.
A dry clay can drag through longer or thicker hair, leaving it bulky, rough and difficult to reshape.
Vector Gum was created for longer styles that need control without losing their natural movement.
It offers glide, separation and natural shine while remaining easy to distribute through the hair.
It can help shape swept-back looks, longer textured styles and hair that needs direction without being frozen into place.
The hair moves.
The style stays.
That is the job.
Our First Hair Gum of Its Kind in 15 Years
Hairbond has not had a product like Vector since Sculptor Putty around 15 years ago.
Sculptor served customers who wanted a wetter, more flexible styling product rather than another dry clay.
It gave movement, control and a different kind of finish.
The market then became heavily focused on dry, matte products.
But the haircuts have moved again.
Longer styles are returning. Natural shine is returning. Customers want control without removing every sign that their hair is alive.
Vector brings that category back into Hairbond.
It is not a relaunch of Sculptor.
It takes what we learned from Sculptor and develops the idea for the way men wear their hair now.
After 15 years, the hair gum finally has a proper job again.
Three Products. Three Jobs.
Drifter is not Forger.
Forger is not Vector.
That is exactly the point.
Drifter Professional Hair Crème is for soft control, natural texture and movement. It improves the idea behind Designer and Texturiser Cream.
Forger Putty is for dependable hold, matte texture and structure without excessive dryness. It is the modern replacement for Mattifier Cement.
Vector Gum is for longer styles that need glide, separation, control and natural shine. It is the first Hairbond product of its kind since Sculptor Putty around 15 years ago.
Three products.
Three finishes.
Three different jobs.
Because one jar cannot answer every modern haircut.
Why It Has Taken Five Years
Hairbond has not launched a new styling product for five years.
That is a long time in an industry where some brands release something new every time somebody changes the lid.
We took our time.
Each formula had to earn its place.
Every product needed to solve a genuine problem.
It had to fit a real haircut, a real customer and a real need behind the chair.
We were not interested in filling gaps on a product chart.
We wanted to fill gaps in the market.
There is a difference.
One creates more stock.
The other creates something useful.
When Are They Launching?
We aim to launch Drifter, Forger and Vector as soon as possible.
The formulas are ready.
They are paraben-free and sulphate-free.
We are now waiting for our UK supplier to complete filling and final production.
We want the products available quickly.
But we will not rush the final stage simply to put a date on a social media graphic.
After waiting five years, spoiling the launch for the sake of a few weeks would be idiotic.
The products will arrive when they are properly filled, finished and ready to represent Hairbond.
As soon as production is complete, we will announce the release.
The Barber Still Matters
Customers have access to more haircut inspiration than ever.
They arrive with screenshots, saved videos and names for styles that many professionals had never heard six months earlier.
That does not make the barber or hairdresser less important.
It makes them essential.
The customer can show you the destination.
The professional still has to get them there.
That includes the cut.
It also includes the product.
Retail should never be about pushing another jar across the counter because there is space beside the till.
It should complete the service.
The customer should leave knowing what was used, why it worked and how to recreate the style tomorrow morning when the barber is no longer standing behind them.
That is not aggressive selling.
That is doing the job properly.
The Shelf Has to Catch Up
The clay era is not dead.
The fade is not dead.
Strong hold is not dead.
But they are no longer the whole market.
Men’s hair has become longer, softer and more varied.
Customers need better choices.
Barbers and hairdressers need better tools to serve them.
That is why we created Drifter, Forger and Vector.
Not because Hairbond needed more products.
Because customers needed better matches.
Drifter improves a softer styling idea we have believed in for years.
Forger replaces the space left by Mattifier Cement.
Vector brings a true Hairbond hair gum back after around 15 years.
Not three more products.
Three missing answers.
The haircuts changed.
The shelf stayed the same.
Now Hairbond is helping it catch up.
Be Ready for the Launch
Drifter, Forger and Vector are coming soon.
Three missing answers.
One Hairbond range.
